The overlapping of natural textures plays a vital role in the composition of this space. Unique open areas are connected with refined earthy materials and West of Main was able to curate collectables from the owner's travels and add them throughout the design. The existing stone walls which enclose the room are offset with several large, bay windows. The main windows open to a scenic view of lush trees and are framed with a rich wood casing. In order to accent the natural essence of this space, West of Main selected a porcelain hexagon tile that mimics the look of old world terracotta flooring.

This design embodies the client’s love of adventure and natural sensibilities. This project is a perfect example to showcase the fact that you do not have to change the layout nor replace all of the pre-existing elements to give your kitchen a dramatic new look.

The client’s dream was to create a modern and warm home that is easy to clean. Their top priorities were the kitchen, bath & closet designs, especially the closet! With high ceilings throughout, West of Main decided to accentuate the vertical lines and play with the change in colour as daily light moves across the home. The effect is most noticeable in the kitchen whereby flanking the stove with two vertical backsplash bands of tile, it appears to be a different tile throughout the day.

The material palette is abundant in rich tones and textures. The decor fuses dark tints (found in the wallpaper and millwork), with weightless bed linens. The buff hues in the custom headboard and bedding create a natural sense of warmth in the space, inviting you into the refined setting. West of Main combined multiple natural materials to create an interior design which feels exotic and cosy at the same time. The dark hues in the grasscloth flatter the lighter linens, however, its organic texture allows it to stay in tune with the overall decor of the interior. To keep the intimate mood of the space, the ceiling is painted in a rich teal, allowing the wallpaper to blend into the ceiling seamlessly.

Preserving the heritage ornaments of this home required a team of highly skilled craftsmen and lots of strategic planning. The design is a true reflection of the owner’s personalities, where they have been and where they are going. The colourful kitchen evokes an eclectic vibe while the juxtaposition of modern elements mixed with classic architecture create a timeless sensibility.
Fusing elements from her travels and love for history, Sascha integrated decorative pieces that played on classic architectural ornaments and structure. Traditionally, homes were built with small, enclosed rooms, but modern clients are often interested in removing those barriers to create open spaces that will allow for a better flow of traffic and conversation.

Honouring a classic design, West of Main chose the finishes for this white and espresso kitchen. The timeless tumbled marble subway tiled backsplash combined with a 2 cm Ceasarstone Quartz counter (resembling the grey veins of marble), fuses modern lines with classic materials.

The client wished to create a more elegant and functional kitchen space for their family without wasting their existing cabinetry. West of Main was able to accomplish this by perceptively reorganizing the spacial layout and reusing cabinetry to create an 8’ island. Sascha’s eye for complementary tones paired the rich wood of their existing cabinets with a taupe-greige ‘Shaker-style’ door to create a focal point within the bar area.
