Project Hint Of Morris

This young family wanted to make their new house in the south of Ottawa, feel like home with an English twist. Their love for the British textile designer, William Morris, was our main inspiration for colours, patterns, and botanical pieces.

Features Entry, Living Room, Sunroom, and Dining Room

Entry

In this entry, we needed to make the most of the small space in the corner of the staircase. We wanted to give our clients a drop zone to put their mail and keys, but also create a vignette to introduce their guests. A small iron console table is paired with a metal side table tucked underneath to pull out if people need a seat while putting their shoes on. Some botanical framed artwork above reminds us of William Morris, and a small Terri Table Lamp with an alabaster base provides some wayfinding lighting at night time.

Living Room

The layout of this space is quite long and narrow, with a large dark fireplace at the back. The clients opted for no TV in this room, so the layout was centred around creating zones for socializing, reading, and entertaining. We created an intentional break in the narrow layout by adding a large sectional to visually divide the dining and living areas. This Addison sectional from our WoM Collection is upholstered in a super durable Crypton fabric, perfect for young kids and pets. We also added a leather Medina Swivel Chair in the corner next to the fire with the Bryant Floor Lamp for a cozy nook. We had so much fun selecting the throw pillows with peach, aqua, and plum tones which we pulled from William Morris ‘Tulip’ and ‘Strawberry Theif’ fabrics. The Priya Area Rug we selected is more subdued to not compete with the other patterns, but is very textural and soft. To fill the large wall above the sectional, the oversized misty landscape artwork is a nod to the English countryside. We completed the space with mixed metal side tables, a round coffee table in a cool-toned wood, and lots of greenery and playful accessories.

Behind the sectional, we added a marble console table behind that greats you when you walk into the space from the entrance. This is the perfect spot to add some extra seating like these adorable navy poufs, and some mood lighting with the sculptural Belmore Table Lamp.

Sunroom

Across from the living room, the home has a beautiful addition with bay windows and skylights that flood the room with natural light. We thought this would be a perfect area for a bistro table and chairs to have coffee in the morning, or a glass of wine at night. Our clients are surprised at how much they use this spot now, especially when having family gatherings. To finish off the gorgeous windows, we added darker charcoal linen drapery to dress them up and offer privacy at night.

Dining Room

You may have noticed we love pairing a wood tables with black chairs! Here we used our favourite Heidelberg Dining Chairs. To keep this sapce from feeling too "farmhouse", we chose a more tailored wood mid-century dining table that extends to seat eight if needed. The Layla Olive Moss Area Rug defines the space and adds a touch of green to tie in with the plants throughout. Above the dining set, we chose the Darlana Linear Chandelier in Aged Iron, which perfectly mimics the shape of the rectangular dining set.

The kitchen was already fully renovated – all we needed to add was a window treatment, stools, and lighting. From the dining room, a playful pop of yellow catches your eye from the new custom lemon fabric roman shade. The Katie Acorn Pendants above the island almost seamlessly blend into the space with their glass shades so as to not compete with the Darlana Chandelier in front.
