Hi, my name is Nicole Veenema. I’m an interior designer working my dream job in the city I was born and raised in!
I love to inspire and to be inspired by all that surrounds me. I spend an extensive amount of time styling, traveling, practicing photography, road tripping, antiquing, and eating beautiful food. After graduating with honours and obtaining a degree in interior design, I spent 5+ years gaining deep industry knowledge in the commercial interior design sector. I am LEED GA certified and after passing my NCIDQ I became a registered member of ARIDO.
I believe interior design should always be beautiful and livable. I design for people and believe that the foundation of great design is successful communication and involvement with the client. I believe spaces that foster either intimate conversation or the sense of belonging to a bigger experience are the most magical and memorable spaces. I believe in a constant connection to nature and spend just as much time daydreaming about green oases as I do any interior room.
Social by nature, my soul is happiest in summer when the city is bustling and I can connect with my friends over patio drinks (and people watching) or when I am travelling and sharing new cultural and foodie experiences with my travel companions (Copenhagen’s Väkst, a new Nordic restaurant, is my latest favourite find). This joy stems my design aspirations for boutique restaurants, hotels, and public spaces.
I have always loved beautiful things. Style that speaks to me is timeless and fairly simple but layered with textures and natural materials. I love materials with a worn or aged texture and anything with character and imperfections. I’m inspired by old world design but also Parisian, Scandinavian, Bohemian, Industrial…and the list goes on (how can you choose just one)! I believe that there are multiple styles and solutions to solve design problems, but there is usually one that best expresses and resolves the needs of each individual client.
Thank you for taking time out of your day to read about me! I’m ambitious, determined, and so excited to be a part of West of Main and to help you create your perfect space.

Going out to a restaurant isn’t solely about good food and good service. Of course, this is important, but it’s also the ambiance, atmosphere, and social experience that keeps guests returning. Many design elements come into play and considerably influence your overall dining experience.
“It was important to us to give back and to create an environment that is enriching to both customers and staff. It’s cliché, but that’s what really sets us apart. We wanted to create a culture of care. That’s exactly what I see every time I’m in one of our restaurants.” -Stephanie Howarth
When he isn't kayaking Ottawa's white waters or making the team gin & tonics on Fridays, Justin is hard at work behind the scenes at West of Main. Justin is a pillar of the interior design company, he sets the bar high for his staff, and is a team motivator (aka he keeps us in line).
